new website, new platform, newDawn!

Hey, so this is my new site. Let me know what you think.

I'm on the precipice of a new beginning with the business, getting ready to do a photo shoot to fill out my portfolio and having literature printed to distribute to local rec centres, libraries and community centres. I'm also going to be approaching schools to promote weirdFaces and I'm in talks with a local school about forming a theatrical troupe, going into schools and producing, directing, choreographing musicals and plays with the kids and I would be the mua/face-painter.

Speaking of musicals - Seussical Jr (Seussical the Musical for elementary age kids) was an amazing experience. I was the face designer and lead mua for the show which was performed by Sherwood Park Elementary school in North Vancouver. I absolutely loved working with the kids, they were so talented and well behaved - a really nice bunch. I designed 8 faces which evolved over the 3 performances in which 24 kids were fully face painted by myself and three volunteer moms (that I trained). Another 16 kids were painted and had their hair done by a fellow mua (also a mom). It all went very smoothly as we had allowed ourselves 2 hours in which to complete all the faces and designed a timetable by which everyone adhered to. It was a great show and I can't wait to watch the DVD. I am waiting for photo permission slips to be handed back but as soon as I do, I'll be posting all the best backstage photos in the gallery.

And finally... I ran in the 25th Annual Vancouver 10k Sun Run (the largest 10k in the world in 2008) on Sunday. I had been training for the last 13 weeks and actually completed the run in 66.56 minutes. I had been aiming to finish within 1 hour 20, secretly hoping for 1 hour 10 and totally surprised myself with 1 hour 6 mins 56secs! I only stopped to walk once and couldn't believe where the energy came from for the final sprint to the finish line. Out of 55,000 people, I finished in the top 20,000 - I'm very proud of myself seeing as I had never run for longer than 10 mins before (I was a sprinter and a gymnast growing up - long distance was not my thing) and I can now say that I'm a runner and will continue to be now that I know how. If I can do that, I can certainly start a new business! Phew!
